A creative new look at a subject that you’ve seen before.
The Umbrella Plant Series all started at a very young age for Courtney. As a youth this plant was in his household, and it started out very small. Over the years it turned into a large plant with many leaves. The shape that the plant made appeared interesting to Courtney. He noticed all of the small negative shapes that were created. And that’s where the idea got started.
When implementing this idea, Courtney knew there was no way that it could be done on a small scale. He wanted to show the subject life size, so the viewer could feel the size of the work.
